African Countries Trying to Lift Ebola Travel Ban.

One of the side-effects to the current ebola epidemic is that there are a number of travel bans placed on individuals as well as entire countries and that these bans are having a negative effect on economies that are already struggling. It seems as though the African Union is lifting travel bans to all the countries that are currently fighting the epidemic in an effort to help the economies of the suffering nations. While this might be a good idea in terms of easing economic hardship, there are many people who think that it is still too soon and that the disease is still too out-of-control for an opening of borders.

While no one is denying that the travel bans are isolating the infected countries, they are seen by many as necessary to make sure that the disease is manageable. This is especially important seeing as how ebola is currently winning and that, due to a combination of weak central government, ignorance and superstition, and other factors, the disease is outpacing attempts to reign it in. Instead of banning all citizens of a country, governments are considering intense ebola screenings for all incoming people so that those that are healthy can still travel. Those that are critical of the ban (including the WHO and other international charity and health groups) point to the fact that continued isolation of the infected countries will do nothing but harm them economically and cause countries trying to escape the shadows of civil war to slide back into chaos.
