NFL Draft Day Surprises

The NFL Draft day is almost upon us! As with any other draft, I’ve never been a fan of predicting who is going to go where. Remember 2014, when everyone was positive Cleveland would scoop up Johnny Manziel at their earliest convenience? And then wound up passing over him? Granted, the Browns traded up and grabbed him as the number 22 pick, but still, that first pass was a bit of a surprise. So, will Jameis Winston go to the ‘Bucs? It’s too early to tell. After all, he recently visited the NY Jets camp…finbar o'neill, nfl, draft day

So, let’s move away from all the speculation. But what is cool to think about is the group of guys who fly under the radar every year. So, without further adieu, here is Charles Davis’s list of five draft prospects that could prove to be absolute steals.

Ifo Ekpre-Olomu: Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending injury at Oregon last year, but was shaping up to be one of the top corner’s in the league. In fact, Charles Davis ranks him in his top-10 corners available. While he is a little small (5’ 9”) he is very athletic and will make the tackle when he has to.

‘Tre Jackson: This guard out of Florida State isn’t exactly spectacular, but he is reliable. And sometimes, reliable is all you really need. Davis sees him being a third-rounder and a solid NFL starter for about a decade.

Dezmin Lewis: A wide receiver out of Central Arkansas, Lewis is drawing comparisons to Cecil Shorts and Pierre Garcon, two other big time receivers from small name schools. He’s pretty big, and had a solid outing at the senior bowl. Keep your eyes on this guy.

Za’Darius Smith: This defensive end out of Kentucky is a player teams dare not sleep on. He had such a good Shrine Game that he was even called up to the Senior Bowl, where he did just about everything but disappoint.

T.J. Yeldon: Yeldon, a running back from Alabama, has already been in the national eye after an outstanding college career. But for some reason, he’s been left out of buzz surrounding top running backs in the draft. He’s a consistent back, and he has solid receiving value, too.
